Bird Count
Saturday February 13th at 10am

Learn about birds by participating on a bird count for the Great Backyard Bird Count.  All ages and experience levels welcome, all that is mandatory is an interest in birds. Binoculars, folding chairs, field guides are all optional. We have extra field guides. There will be a short introductory talk to help identify birds that are common to Van Cortlandt Park.  Meet at the Golf House, enter the Park at Van Cortlandt Park South and Bailey Ave..

Winter EcoCrafts
Tuesday February 16th from 11am to 1pm

Come create winter-themed crafts using natural and recycled materials and enjoy free hot cocoa and cookies with the Friends.  Fun for kids of all ages.  Location:  Amalgamated Housing Building 9 Community Room on Gale Place just off Orloff Ave.

Bronx Parks Speak Up
Saturday February 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Friends join other park and open space advocates, community groups, educators, and volunteers for the 16th Annual Bronx Parks Speak Up. This free event provides an opportunity to network, hear the latest news, learn about new resources, and participate in workshops and panel discussions concerning the state of the Bronx environment and our green spaces. Location: Lehman College Faculty Dining Room, Music Building (enter campus on Bedford Park Blvd. West between Jerome Ave. & Goulden Ave.). Funded by Consolidated Edison.

 

Save the Date for these Spring 2010 Events

Spring Volunteer Kickoff Event
Saturday April 17th, 2010 from 10am-1pm

Join us we start our volunteer season with events in all four corners of the Park.  Projects throughout will include tree plantings and invasive plant removal.  Giveaways for volunteers!  Locations are: VC Riding Stables, Last Stop of 1 Train, Last Stop of 4 Train (Woodlawn) and Woodlawn Playground.  Funded by New York Community Trust and Consolidated Edison.

 

Hike-a-Thon
Saturday May 1st, 2010

Get out for a hike and help us raise funds for the restoration of Van Cortlandt Park's spectacular hiking trails.  Similar to a Walk-a-Thon, Hike-a-Thon participants will be asked to seek out supporters to sponsor their hike.  For more information please visit our Hike-a-Thon page.
