Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday February 18th at 11am
Great for beginners and children. Learn about common birds of the area then spend time counting birds with Naturalist Celia Dubin. Binoculars and bird ID books will be available. Games provided for children before the count. Meet in front of the Van Cortlandt Golf House- enter the Park at Bailey and Van Cortlandt Park South.
Environmental Explorations NYC: Teacher Workshops
February 20th- 25th from 9:30am to 5pm
A NYCDOE After School Professional Development 36 hour course for NYC teachers offered by the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the Bronx River Alliance. This course uses hands-on activities to bring NYC’s local outdoor resourcesand nature into the classroom and enhance classroom learning. Materials covered include Project WILD, Project WET, Project Learning Tree and more, in addition to introducing teachers to local environmental resources. Teachers will be provided with new strategies for introducing environmental topics in connection with math, literacy, and art, fostering student leadership and developing higher order thinking skills. Spring 2012 Trails Crew
Want to develop useful skills, while making a significant contribution to the future of Van Cortlandt Park and the Bronx Community? Crew Members will attend workshops with trails professionals, developing skills in various areas of trail construction while improving the Cass Gallagher Trail of Van Cortlandt Park. No prior trails experience is necessary but encouraged; all training will be offered in an on-the-job format.
Who: 12-20 dedicated community volunteers
When: Saturdays March 10th, April 14th, May 5thand June 2nd from 10am to 3pm
Where: Meeting at Compost Site (enter the Park at Broadway and Mosholu Ave.)

All individuals who are interested in volunteering with us must register there first and then they can sign up for our volunteer events. Space is limited so we ask that groups contact us at least 2 weeks in advance to schedule.
Are you a Corporation interested in volunteer with FVCP? For a $500 donation, the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park will provide a 1-day, 3-hour volunteer event for up to 30 people that is tailored to your employees and schedule. Visit our Programs Page for more information.
